The Chartered Institute of Management Specialists (CIMS) is committed to promoting high standards of professional competence, ethical leadership, responsible management practice and continuing professional development.
Membership of the Institute and the holding of a CIMS professional designation represent a commitment not only to professional competence, but also to appropriate standards of conduct.
CIMS members are expected to demonstrate the following in their professional practice:
Members should maintain the knowledge, skills and professional judgement necessary to perform their responsibilities effectively and undertake appropriate Continuing Professional Development.
Members should act honestly, responsibly and consistently with the ethical expectations of their profession.
Members should accept responsibility for professional decisions and conduct and remain accountable to employers, clients, colleagues and other relevant stakeholders.
Confidential, proprietary and sensitive information obtained through professional activities should be appropriately protected and used only for legitimate purposes.
Professional judgement should be exercised fairly and independently, without allowing conflicts of interest, personal relationships or inappropriate influence to compromise professional decisions.
Members should conduct themselves in a manner that promotes dignity, fairness, inclusion and respect in professional relationships.
Managers and executives should consider the wider organisational and stakeholder consequences of their decisions and exercise authority responsibly.
Members are encouraged to maintain and develop their professional competence through structured learning, professional practice, research, reflection and other recognised CPD activities.
Professional designations awarded by CIMS may only be used by individuals who have been formally admitted to the applicable grade or successfully completed the relevant professional certification requirements.
Designations must not be used in a misleading manner or represented as academic degrees, statutory licences or governmental appointments.
The Institute reserves the right to investigate inappropriate or unauthorised use of its membership titles, professional designations, certificates, digital credentials and intellectual property.
